1. Nano Today – Ordering fibers in green nano-composites is a stretch

Published a new article! This research is led by our postdoc, Shajedul Hoque, Ph.D., in Advanced Composites and Hybrid Materials (IF: 23.2). In this study, we explored how origami-inspired designs with a soft coating can transform brittle materials, typically prone to catastrophic failure, into more resilient, adaptable structures. Here, we 3D-printed ceramic-based Miura-ori structures and coated them with a thin layer of biocompatible polymer. The coated structure exhibited significantly higher toughness, with the most notable improvement in the least stiff direction compared to the uncoated versions.
